Tell us what prompted the request
Describe the concern in everyday language: a soft area, movement you have already noticed, rust, a leak or questions raised by a landlord. Do not deliberately load, shake or test a structure to reproduce a problem. Send any specific reporting requirements so we can check the service is suitable.
Confirm permission and access
Arrange owner permission and agree access with the occupier. Tell us who will meet us and about locked gates, pets or restrictions. Keep the normal approach clear where you can do so safely.
Send useful photographs
- A wide view of the deck and pergola.
- How they meet the house.
- A close-up and wider view of each concern.
- Supports or the underside already visible from normal ground level.
Do not climb, enter tight spaces, remove decking or dismantle finishes for photographs. Our enquiry form accepts iPhone HEIC/HEIF photos as well as JPG, PNG, WebP and PDF.
Share the history you have
Plans, earlier reports, repair dates and existing council documents can help explain what we see. Let us know about alterations, including roofing added over a pergola. MBIE’s pergola exemption concerns unroofed structures; roofed structures need consideration under the relevant rules. MBIE: pergolas.
Know what happens next
Visual inspections are limited to what is visible and safely accessible. An inaccessible area is recorded as a limitation, not assumed sound. NZIBS: inspection FAQs.
The $195 including GST visit allows up to 60 minutes for one deck and associated pergola. Your photographed PDF follows within 3 working days. Repair work and any specialist assessment are separately agreed.
