TrickyBuilds guidance · Checked 22 October 2026 · About TrickyBuilds
This is a general care guide for this service. Use the instructions for the products actually installed and the information supplied for your job. Manufacturer links are reference resources, not a statement that those brands were used on your project.
Looking after the work
- Sweep leaves and grit away and keep board gaps clear without damaging the boards. Move planters occasionally so trapped moisture can dry.
- Use a cleaning method suitable for the decking species and coating. Strong pressure washing can damage timber; check the coating supplier’s instructions.
- Record the finish used and assess it periodically. Recoating intervals depend on the product, exposure and condition, not one universal anniversary.
- From an accessible position, look for raised fixings, splinters, loose boards and movement at steps or handrails. Have defects assessed before continued use.
When to contact us
- Loose handrails, unstable steps, soft timber or unusual movement.
- Persistent pooling or water trapped where the deck meets the house.
For an immediate threat to people, leave the danger area and call 111. For urgent building assistance, call 021 041 3920 to check availability. The online form is not an emergency service.
Keep these records
- Decking species and coating brand/colour
- Care instructions, installation photos and any design documents
- Dates of cleaning, recoating and repairs
Keep a dated record of observations, cleaning, servicing and repairs. Share relevant records when asking for help. Only carry out work you can do safely and competently; use the appropriate qualified trade for specialist work.
