TrickyBuilds guidance · Checked 22 October 2026 · About TrickyBuilds
This is a general care guide for this service. Use the instructions for the products actually installed and the information supplied for your job. Manufacturer links are reference resources, not a statement that those brands were used on your project.
Looking after the work
- Keep vegetation, stored items and soil from building up against the fence. Do not use the fence as a retaining wall unless it was designed for that purpose.
- Check gate operation and the condition of hinges and latches. Follow the hardware maker’s maintenance instructions.
- Inspect accessible posts, rails and fixings after storms. Photograph any new lean or movement before it changes further.
- Clean and recoat timber or metal only with products suitable for the actual surface and finish. Get advice before adding screens or other wind-catching attachments.
When to contact us
- A leaning post, loose panel or gate that suddenly drags.
- Sharp or loose hardware, cracked connections or timber decay.
For an immediate threat to people, leave the danger area and call 111. For urgent building assistance, call 021 041 3920 to check availability. The online form is not an emergency service.
Keep these records
- Boundary and scope information supplied for the job
- Timber treatment/finish details and hardware instructions
- Photographs and dates of maintenance
Keep a dated record of observations, cleaning, servicing and repairs. Share relevant records when asking for help. Only carry out work you can do safely and competently; use the appropriate qualified trade for specialist work.
